The official flag of British Columbia was registered with consent of King Edward VII by the College of Arms in London England on March 31,1906. Queen Victoria had rejected the original design for depicting a setting sun above the Union Jack. The BC Flag was authorized for official use by Executive Order on June 27, 1960. The design includes the Union Jack symbolizing the province's colonial origins. Its geographic location between the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains is represented by the wavy blue and silver bars and the setting sun.
