The flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan consists of three equal horizontal bands The top or blue representing the Turkic people, the green the nation’s affinity to Islam and the bottom red, the desire of the nation for progress and modernization similar to that experienced by its European neighbours. An white crescent and an eight-point star known as the Rub El Hizb are centered in the field of the flag. The star’s eight points represent the eight branches of the Turkic people.
The official colours and size were adopted on February 5th, 1991. They were taken from the former Azerbaijan Democratic Republic which used a similar design with a larger crescent and star placed in the left. During the country’s Soviet occupation, the flag was changed to a Soviet hammer and cycle design with a navy blue stripe along the bottom.
Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
