Andorra Flag - Principality of

The national flag of the Principality of Andorra was adopted in 1866. The flag is a vertical tricolour consisting of blue, yellow, and red with the Andorran coat of arms centered in the field. Although the three vertical stripes appear to be equal in width, the center yellow bar is slightly wider than the other. It is similar in design to the flags of Chad and Romania who share similar blue yellow and red tricolour designs.

Andorra’s flag is based on the flags of France and Spain, the two states that protect the independence of the small state. The vertical stripes and colours red and blue were borrowed from the French Tricolore while the yellow and red are taken from the Spanish flag. The coat of arms bear the motto “Virtus Unita Fortior “or "Strength United is Stronger".
