Dominican Republic Flag

The flag of the Dominican Republic consists of a white cross, centered in the field, forming four quadrants. Extending from the hoist, the top quadrants are blue followed by red and along the bottom, red followed by blue. A small coat of arms bearing a shield supported by a Bay Laurel branch to the left and a Palm Frond on the left is centered on the cross. Above the shield, the national motto, Dios, Patria, Libertad (God, Fatherland, Liberty) is displayed with República Dominicana appearing below it. Centered on the shield, flanked by three spears is a Bible with a small cross above it. The Bible is open to the Gospel of John, 8:32, which declares: Y la verdad nos hará libre (And the truth shall set you free).
