Detailed Description
Specifications

The flag of the Republic of Ecuador was inspired by General Francisco Miranda, founder of the South American Independence movement. It was then adopted by the Republics of Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela as they came together as a Confederation independent from Spain. The confederation lasted from 1822 to 1830, upon which the three became separate nations. The three sovereign states have maintained the basic design until today, with only slight differences distinguishing one flag from the others.

The Ecuadorian flag has three horizontal stripes which from the bottom up are red, blue, and yellow. The yellow stripe is twice as wide as the red and blue stripes. Each colour symbolises an aspect of Ecuador’s past, red the bloodshed of soldiers and the martyrs of the independence, blue, the sea and sky and yellow, the abundance and fertility of the land.

The national Coat of Arms of Ecuador was a gift to the people from the National Congress of 1900. Within a heart, the Coat of Arms rests on a bundle of sheaves which is the Republic's insignia for dignity. Four flags adorn the outer part of the Coat of Arms. The palm and laurel branches between them symbolize victory. A condor perched at the top offers shelter and protection beneath its outstretched wings and stands ready to defend against an enemy. Elements of the Zodiac, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer together with the Sun combine to signify the spring of Ecuadorian nation. In the background, the majestic Chimborazo Mountains rise towards a blue sky. The highest in the Andes, it unites with the Guayas River, formed from its snows, to give us the brotherhood of the Sierra and the Coast. In the lower foreground, the steamboat "Guayas" is seen crossing the wide river. The mast consists of a rod with two wings at the top and two snakes encircling it. This symbol of caduceus symbolises accord and trade.

Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
