Detailed Description
Specifications

Prior to returning control of Macao to the People’s Republic of China in 1999, the flag of Portugal flew over the territory. Unlike Hong Kong who had its own Blue Ensign, Macao only flew the Portuguese flag for civilian purposes. Lisbon had in 1967 proposed flags for its overseas provinces such as Macao, but never acting on the proposal. The government of Macao did fly on special occasion a government flag consisting of a light blue field with the 1935 Coat of Arms. This flag was not often seen.

The flag of the Macao Special Administrative Region is light green with a lotus flower above the stylized Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and white water below. Above all of this, an arc of five gold, five-pointed stars: one centered large and two smaller ones on each side of it. The lotus is the floral emblem of Macao. The Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge links Macao to the island Taipa. It is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the SAR. The water symbolises Macao’s important position as a port. The five-pentangle stars echo the meaning of and symbolism of Macao’s relationship under the flag of the People’s Republic of China the newly adopted mother country.

Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
