Specifications

Occupied by the United Kingdom as a result of the two Opium Wars, Hong Kong and Kowloon were the British doors to commerce with China.  In 1897,Britain entered into a  99 year lease for the New Territories.  Under British rule, Hong Kong’s official flag consisted of the nion Jack and various Ensigns bearing  the Arms of the colony and its Governors.  The last British Colonial flag was a Blue ensign with colony's Coat of Arms centred prominently.

On July 1, 1997, in the presence of HRH the Prince of Wales, and Prime Minister Tony Blair, the British Union Jack and the colonial flag of Hong Kong were raised and immediately lowered for the last time. This was followed by the raising of the Chinese national flag together with a new regional flag for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. President Jiang Zemin and Prime Minister Li Peng observed the transfer of power after 156 years of British colonial rule.  Hong Kong was now a province of the Peoples Republic of China and would pioneer a new form of government known as “one country, two systems,” whereby communism and Hong Kong style capitalism would co-exist.

Hong Kong’s new flag is red with a stylized, white, five-petal bauhinia flower in the centre. New regulations approved for the Hong Kong SAR demand that when the Chinese national and Hong Kong flags are raised or flown at the same time, the national flag should be the central or prominent one. When the two flags fly side by side, the national flag is to be larger, with the national flag on the right and the regional flag on the left.In procession, the national flag should always be the lead or front flag.

Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
