The Flag of the Overseas territory of the Falkland Islands was adopted on September 29, 1948. Originally consisting of a Blue Ensign with the Union Flag in the canton and the Island coat-of-arms superimposed upon a white disc in the field. The coat of arms is representative of the sheep farming community making up the island's residents. In 1999, the disk was removed and the size of the arms was increased.
Argentina, who during the Falklands War, occupied the islands, banned the flag replacing it with the flag of the Argentine Republic. Even though the British quickly fought back the invasion, Argentina today maintains that the islands are part of the Tierra del Fuego Province known as the Malvina Islands. They recognize the Island's flag as the province's flag regardless of the fact it has never flown there.
Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
