Bermuda Flag - Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom

Bermuda known officially as the Bermuda Islands or The Somers Isles is a British overseas terriitory in the North Atlantic. It is located 1770 km north east of Miami Florida and 1350 km south of Halifax Nova Scotia. It is the oldest and most populous remaining British overseas territory, settled by England a century before the Acts of Union created the United Kingdom.

The Flag of the United Kingdom Overseas Territory of Bermuda was adopted on October 4, 1910. It is a British Red Ensign bearing the traditional Union Flag in the canton. It is defaced by the coat of arms of Bermuda in the right field. Bermuda is one of three former and current British Colonies to fly a defaced Ensign. Tradition was to fly a blue ensign for government use and reserve the red ensign for naval use. However, like Canada and the Union of South Africa, Bermuda was granted warrants to fly the red ensign. Only Bermuda continues to fly the Red Ensign as its official flag.
