The current United Nations emblem was approved on 7 December 1946. Over 100 different designs were submitted to the UN by its member countries for consideration by the UN General Assembly. The design is "a map of the world representing an azimuthal equidistant projection centred on the North Pole, inscribed in a wreath consisting of crossed conventionalized branches of the olive tree, in gold on a field of smoke-blue with all water areas in white. The projection of the map extends to 60 degrees south latitude, and includes five concentric circles". Olive branches symbolize peace. The world map depicts the area of concern to the United Nations in achieving its main purpose, peace and security. The flag is known world wide as a symbol of peace and goodwill between all the earth's people. It is used on UN delegations, peacekeeping missions and UN official events. It represents the peoples of the world united for a better world. Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
