Cuba Flag SKU: CUB35P
Conflicting stories exist as to the history of the Cuban flag. The official explanation of the flag's history as issued by the Cuban government under Castro is as follows: The flag's three blue stripes represent the three former divisions of the Cuban island. Each separated by single white stripes representing the island nation's independence. The red triangle boldly stands for equality, fraternity and freedom. It also symbolizes the blood spilt in Cuba's struggle for independence. The lone star is the absolute freedom among the island's peoples. Another legend dates back to the late 19th Century whereby it was believed that the island set its sights on becoming part of the USA. Based on this conception, the flag takes on a more Americana perspective. The Red White and Blue design was fashioned to imitate the Stars and Stripes. To complete this concept, the flag's lone star would represent the next state added to the American republic. It is believed that General Narciso López, a Venezuelan filibuster who had recently moved to America in the 1850's was anxious to liberate Cuba from its Spanish occupier and claim it for his newly adopted land. Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
