In December 1964, after a divisive and extensive debate the Parliament of Canada voted to adopt the Maple Leaf as its official Flag. A proclamation was issued by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Queen of Canada on the 15th Day of February 1965 proclaiming The Maple Leaf Our Emblem Dear as the official flag of Canada.
