Haiti Flag - Republic of SKU: HTI35P
The flag of the Republic of Haiti is a blue over red bicolore. It originates when revolutionary Jean-Jacques Dessalines tore up the French Tricolore in 1803, and stitched it back together horizontally connecting the blue and red into a new flag. During the Berlin Summer Olympics in 1936, it was determined Haiti and Liechtenstein had been flying the same flag, causing a crown to be added to the flag of Liechtenstein. Seven years later, the coat of arms of Haiti was added to the centre field for official and or state use of the flag making it even more distinct. The arms depict a trophy of weapons ready to defend freedom, and a royal palm signifying independence. Above the palm is the Cap of Liberty. At the base, is a white scroll bearing the inscription “L'Union Fait La Force” or "Unity Makes Strength.” The Civil version of the flag omits both the panel and the coat of arms. The Haitian flag was officially reintroduced and readopted on February 25, 1986 following the demise of the family dictatorship of Francois and Jean-Claude Duvalier. During the Duvalier period, which lasted from May 25, 1964 to February 25, 1986, the nation flew several vertical bicolour flag designs consisting of red and black panels. Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
