Saint Kitts and Nevis Flag - Federation of SKU: KNA35P
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis also known constitutionally as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis is located in the Leeward Islands of the West Indies. St Kitts became both the first French and the first British colony in the Caribbean. France ceded control of the islands in 1783 to Great Britain under the Treaty of Versailles. The Federal Act of 1882 united St Christopher/Kitts, Nevis, and Sombrero along with Anguilla into a single colony. In 1980, as Britain began to discuss independence with her Caribbean colonies, Anguilla chose to remain a British dependency and not join the other islands in independence in 1983.
The flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis was adopted on September 19, 1983 after being chosen in a national competition. Its design displays traditional Pan-Africa colours without their traditional Rastafari meaning. Instead, green symbolises island fertility, yellow island sunshine, black the nations’s African heritage, red, the transition from slave colony to tourist nation and the colour white, through its stars, hope and liberty for all.
