Mozambique Flag - Republic of SKU: MOZ35P
The flag of the Republic of Mozambique was adopted on May 1, 1983 and consists of three equal horizontal bands of green (top), black, and yellow with a red isosceles triangle based on the hoist side. The stripes are seperated by white fimbriations Inside the triangle is centered a yellow five-pointed star bearing a crossed AK-47 rifle and a hoe in black superimposed on an open white book It is the only national flag in the world to feature a modern rifle and is based on the flag of the Mozmbican Liberation Front who fought for independence from Portugal. Flag symbolism has been designed over the years as follows: Green, the riches of the soil, Black, the African continent, Yellow, the mineral riches, White, the peace, and Red, the country’s struggle for independence. Emblems are further defined as the yellow star, representing the solidarity of the people in their socialist society, the book symbolising education, the hoe, the simple agrarian society and the AK-47 the determination to defend the Mozambique Republic.
