Georgia Flag- Former Independent SKU: GEF35P
During Georgia's life as a nation it has had two brief periods whereby it existed as an independent state known as the Democratic Republic of Georgia. This was during the period of 1918 – 1921 and after the fall of the Soviet Union. During this period a tricolor flag was adopted.
The design chosen resulted from a national contest won by Jakob Nikoladze, a painter. The Georgian flag was abolished by the Soviet Union following the 1921 takeover of Georgia and replaced by a Soviet design. The Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia restored the flag to use on November 14, 1990.
Georgia’s transition from a Soviet state back to an independent nation was turbulent. Unfortunately, for the Georgian flag, it was seen as a symbol of the chaos and ethnic turmoil associated with the transition. In January 2004, a new Georgian Flag was adopted by Parliament.
