The flag of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was officially adopted on April 27, 1992. It had flown initially by the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. . It was later flown as the official flag of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It dates back to the early days of World War 1.

The Yugoslav flag is a tri-color flag of blue, white and red horizontal stripes each of similar width. Centered in the field is the During the soviet occupation years, the flag of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia bore a red Communist star centered on the flag. The star was removed upon Soviet withdrawal.

In 2003, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was reorganized into the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. The agreement establishing the Union stipulated that the Yugoslav tri-color was to be replaced by a new compromise flag. In 2004, Montenegro adopted a its own flag, as its sought to distance itself from Serbia. Serbia would eventually adopt a version of the tri-color with it coat of arms occupying the centre field once home to the Soviet star.
