The National Flag of the Republic of Belarus is a rectangular field, consisting of two horizontal stripes: red upper stripe and green lower stripe that are two-thirds and one-third of the flag’s width. Near the flagstaff is a vertical stripe consisting of a red-on-white Belarusian decorative pattern occupying one-ninth of the flag's length. The flag is fixed on a flagstaff painted golden with ochre. Red is the color of victorious standards of the Belarusian regiments that victorious over crusaders at Grunewald. It was also the colour of the Red Army divisions and Belarusian guerrillas that liberated the country from fascist invaders in World War II. Green is the color of forests and fields and also the colour of hope, spring and renewal. The Belarusian decorative pattern symbolizes the historical adherence of the Belarusian people to constructive labor, their faith, their triumph of justice and attainment of self-worth in the world community.
