Israel Flag
SKU: ISR35P

Israel became an independent state on 14th May 1948 in accordance with a United Nations resolution dated November 29th. The region previously known as Palestine had been under British Occupation as such did not have a flag of its own... A flag containing two blue horizontal stripes and the Magen David was adopted officially on October 28, 1948 (25 Tishre, 5709) by the Speaker of the Provisional Council of State. The new flag had used the symbols of its Zionist predecessors to form its new National symbol.

The Magen David (Shield of David) is a six-pointed star made of two triangles. It appeared according to Jewish tradition on the shield of King David. Similar tradition states the same symbols appeared also on King Solomon's ring and as such is referred to as the Seal of Solomon. This symbol was considered to have magical powers and a defender from the evil spirits. The symbol was found in India without any connection to Judaism. It was also considered as magical by the Moslems (as Solomon Seal) and as such appeared as the symbol of Nigeria. Ethiopian monarchs also used the symbol according to their tradition as descendants of King Solomon and the Queen of Shiva, as their family seal.

Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
