King's Colours Flag (Loyalist)
SKU: UKC35P

On the February 8, 1587, catholic Queen Mary Stuart of Scotland was kidnapped by her protestant ministers, forced to abdicate in favour of her one year old son James and was executed. James Vl would be the first protestant and last Scottish King of Scotland.

On March of 1603, at the age of 13, James Vl of Scotland would also inherit the throne of his mother’s cousin Elizabeth I of England. His conversion to Protestantism enabled him to assume the English crown after Elizabeth bore no legal heirs. James Vl of Scotland would also be known as James l of both the separate Kingdoms of England and Ireland.

In 1606, the king commissioned a new flag, which would marry the crosses of Saint George, patron saint of England, and Saint Andrew, patron saint of Scotland into a flag for the newly combined Kingdom of Great Britain, which would be known as King’s Colours. It would fly throughout his reign and that of his successor Charles l.

In 1810, King George lll, hurting from the loss of the American colonies combined the separate Kingdoms of Ireland and Great Britain, into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The cross of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, was added to King’s Colours, creating a Union Flag. The loss of the separate Irish Kingdom was the start off 200 years of Anglo-Irish conflict.

Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
