Argentina Flag
SKU: ARG35P

The flag of the Argentine Republic first appeared during the struggle for independence of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata from Spain. The Argentine standard was conceived by General Belgrano, at the place where today is located the city of Rosario. He was inspired while he was staring at the sky, just before a battle, at the shores of the Paraná. The Argentine flag was officially flown for the first time on the 23rd of August of 1812 upon the tower of the San Nicolás de Bari Church.

The Congreso de la Nación Argentina officially adopted the light blue and white flag on July 9, 1816 as a national symbol. Then on February 25, 1818, Congress amended the flag with what is known as Sol de Mayo or Sun of May centering it on the white stripe. On June 8, 1938, President Roberto M. Ortiz, signed a law declaring the 20th of June which was the anniversary of Belgrano's death, a National Holiday known as Flag Day.
