Morocco Flag - Kingdom of SKU: MAR35P
Morocco’s flag consists of a red field with a green inter-woven pentagram star outlined in black. The star is known as the Seal of Solomon (Sulaïman in Arabic) or the Star of David, and is believed to originate from the Babylonian Empire. The pentagram is believed to symbolize the goddess Ishtar, who was assimilated by the Muslims to Fatima, the Prophet’s daughter. As such the pentagram represents the link between Allah (God) and the nation in that it represents the 5 pillars of Islam. The belief that the King was a direct descendent of the Prophet Mohammed also reinforced this link. Until independence in 1956, it was limited as a national flag in the former French zone, where it also served as the national and merchant flag of Tangier. The flag was not allowed to fly in the Spanish zone. After Moroccan independence in 1956, it remained the national flag of Morocco. In the 1990’s civil and war ensigns were introduced incorporating the Moroccan crown into their designs. No change was made to the state ensign.
