Nunavut which is Inuktitut for "Our Land" is Canada's newest Territory, created on April 1,1999, as a result of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. It had been formerly part of the Northwest Territories. It is comprised of the eastern half of Canada's north including Baffin Island and Northern Hudson's Bay. Nunavut's flag is simple by design and yet strong in its message The Inuksuk, which, in Inuktitut, means 'like a human', is a stone marker and monument, used for centuries to guide the Inuit across the barren Arctic tundra or to mark sacred and special places. The star is the Niqirtsuituq, or North Star, used for centuries as a point of navigation. It also represents the leadership of the elders. The colours, blue and gold, symbolize the riches of the land, sea and sky. Red is a reference to Canada. Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
