Peru Flag
SKU: PER35P

The flag of Peru was designed by José de San Martín and adopted in 1825. The National, or Civil, Flag (Bandera Nacional ) is permitted to be flown universally by all entities. This differs from the National Ensign, or State Flag, (Pabellón Nacional) which is restricted to state institutions. The National Ensign is defaced with the Coat of Arms of Peru. There is also a State War Flag (Bandera de Guerra), which is defaced with the National Emblem. It is restricted to armed forces and national police unit use.

The Bandera Nacional del Peru is a tri-band flag composed of three vertical bands of equal width; the outer ones are red while the middle is white. Legends state that the red is the blood shed in battles with Spain over independence. The white is peace and justice which now prevails over the country. A flock of flamingoes flying over the troops who liberating Peru in 1820 inspired the stripe design. It was finalized by Simon Bolivar who arranged them vertically in 1825.Depending on it's use, it maybe be defaced with different emblems, and has different names.
