Malta Flag - Republic of SKU: MLT35P
The Republic of Malta is a small and densely-populated island nation in
southern Europe. It consists of an archipelago in the middle of the
Mediterranean Sea directly south of Italy and north of Africa. It is the 4th southernmost country in Europe. Because of its strategic location, the island nation has been conquered, ruled and fought over in numerous battles dating back to the ancient Romans through World War II. Malta's Flag is a basic bi-colour, with white in the hoist and red in the fly. It is known as the Banner of the Arms of Malta. Tradition states that the
colours of the flag were given to Malta by Count Roger, in 1091; a legend which has never been proven. The Canton of the white stripe bears the George Cross which is outlined in red. The Cross was awarded to Malta on April 15th, 1942 by HRM King George VI. The island Nation had sustained enemy air raids and a naval blockade which almost saw them starved into submission. The award from the
King, was to his Maltese people who later adopted republic status and replaced his daughter HRM Queen Elizabeth II as head of state. The George Cross which is the highest Commonwealth decoration awarded for acts of conspicuous gallantry not in the face of the enemy. It remains proudly on the republic's flag. Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
