Palestinian Authority Flag SKU: PSE35P
Palestine is the area of Southwest Asia between the Jordan River and the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is referenced in the Bible as the Jewish homeland, or more specifically the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Later references would note successive occupations by the Romans, Arabs, and Ottoman Turks. British Forces removed German Occupiers from the area at the end of World War II and later sanctioned the 1947 partitioning of Palestine into the new states of Israel and Jordan. Wars fought in 1948, 1967, and 1973 between Israel and the surrounding Arab states saw an increase in the land held by Israel. In 1987 a Palestinian uprising or intifada began in protest against the continued Israeli occupation. Agreements were signed in 1993 and 1995 under which the Palestinian Arabs inspired by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) were granted limited self-rule under the Palestinian National Authority in the Palestinian-Administered Territories in the Gaza Strip and on the West Bank of the Jordan River. Years of concessions and negotiation must take place with neighbouring Israel and other neighbours before the Palestinian Homeland is finally officially recognized, if in fact it ever is. The Palestinian flag has been in use by Palestinians to represent their national aspirations since the middle of the 20th century. It consists of three equal horizontal stripes (black, white and green from top to bottom) overlaid by a red isosceles triangle issuing from the hoist and reaching one third of the way to the fly. Red is the color of Arab nationalism, and green is the color of Islam. These are known as the Pan-Arab colors. It was officially adopted by the PLO under Yassir Arafat on November 15th, 1988 as the flag of the self-proclaimed "State of Palestine." No officially recognized state yet exists to-date. Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
