Nova Scotia Flag - NS
SKU: CNS35P

Nova Scotia was one of the four original British Colonies who entered into Confederation on July 1, 1867 under the British North America Act. The colony, which was known to many as New Scotland, was home to mining, forestry and fishing. Many United Empire Loyalists had settled here fleeing the anti British sentiment in America and the Acadians made later settlements.

The flag displays the province's Shield of Arms with the cross of Saint Andrew. The Shield represents a unique union of the Royal and National Arms of Scotland. It was granted in 1625, by King Charles I, and as such was the first flag to be authorized by Royal Charter in the British Empire (Now Commonwealth) outside of Great Britain. The flag includes a blue cross - the cross of Saint Andrew from the National Arms, but with the colours reversed - on a white or silver background. In the centre is the royal lion inside a double red border, on a yellow or gold background. During the Age of Sail, the flag flew at the masthead of many Nova Scotia merchant ships.

Flag Measures 36 in x 60 in and is 100% polyester with grommets for easy flying.
